Naftali Obilloh Haya defied all odds to emerge as the best pupil in last year’s KCPE. He scored 414 marks, making him the shining star of Kasarani District. He surprised everyone at M.M. Chandaria Primary School. This put him in history books in the school as the first pupil to make it to a National School.

When MPrep selected him as part of the 30 pupils to test our platform for revision, hardly did we know the group of thirty would pull a surprise. Naftali humbled everybody including the staff of MPrep as well as his teachers. Our company conducted an impact study at his school throughout 2012 and identified significant improvement in the boy’s performance .Isaac, who is the Community Relations Director at MPrep spotted the brightness of the boy early last year and describes him as a humble, hardworking and very cooperative.

Obilloh’s family beared the brunt of Kenya’s post-election violence in 2007. The violence left them homeless, but they had to recollect the pieces. This was not a deterrent for the boy to achieve his academic goals. In fact, the boy relied upon well-wishers for support on his daily necessities. One of his teachers even bought him school uniform that enabled him to be at par with his schoolmates. More shocking is the reality that the police hosted their family at Ruaraka Police Station yet he managed to remain consistent in his academic performance. Later they moved to Mathare Slums where they survived on squalor conditions.

More fortunes came knocking on his mother’s door upon the release of KCPE results. The KCB foundation identified the boy as an outstanding performer and awarded him a 4-year scholarship. Now the boy is happily studying at Alliance Boy’s High School and hoping to be an Electrical Engineer upon completion of his Secondary Education.

We wish him the best in his future endeavors!
